Architect John B. Murray is a recognized leader in adapting classical design principles for contemporary living. His firm, recipient of multiple Stanford White and Palladio awards, creates elegant and gracious residences with a timeless aesthetic and superb craftsmanship. Each project is enriched by an inventive interpretation of classical details, bringing a current and fresh vision that meets the needs of contemporary life.

Please join the ICAA for a lecture and book signing of Contemporary Classical Architecture. With a forward by Bunny Williams, “Murray’s work has the subtle quality of a master who knows how to design spaces that will stand the test of time.” Featured residences reveal Murray’s extraordinary mastery of the classical vocabulary and a sensitivity to proportion and scale. Within that framework, he inserts the comforts of contemporary living in a way that is seamless and logical. He writes, “Yes, the architectural projects are of a time and a place, but what will always set them apart are the original, yet still classic details that connect them to the timeless innovators of the past, the inventors of the present, the visionaries of the future.”

John B. Murray is the principal architect and founder of John B. Murray Architect, a New York firm specializing in city and country residences designed within a classical framework. An honors graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, John joined the firm Parish-Hadley, where he worked with the legendary designer Albert Hadley. Hadley endorsed the founding of his partnership, Ferguson Murray Architects, LLP, in 1987, which then led to John opening his own independent practice, John B. Murray Architect, LLC, in 1997. John is a member of the ICAA's President's Council, serves on the board of the Professional Children’s School, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation’s Monticello Cabinet and will be a Design Co-Chair for the 2019 Winter Antiques Show. John B. Murray Architect has received multiple Stanford White and Palladio awards. The firm’s work is regularly published in Veranda, Architectural Digest, Luxe, Elle Decor, Galerie, and House Beautiful.
