Designing the Classical Interior
With Christopher Roy and Brier Tomlinson

Join us for a discussion of the principles and elements of classicism when approaching the design of interiors. This lecture provides an overview of classical ordering principles and strategies, and the role of precedent; an exploration of the dialogue and interplay between architecture, furnishings and interiors; a look at the dynamics between the classical interior plan and the development and expression of the furniture plan; and an examination of importance of scale and proportion at all levels and in all elements of a design. The focus of this lecture will be on residential projects. The general structure of the course will follow the design of interiors from professional practice with additional references to other projects, current and historical, to illustrate and expand on key concepts and precedents.
